Ukon had long purple hair and feminine features. He is ‘pretty’ and occasionally mistaken for a girl. He likes it that way, saying that all artists should be beautiful. (He fancies himself a musician, a form of artist in his mind) His eyes are a golden colour, and they are the only part of him that can ever look really intimidating.

Personality: Ukon is most often described as light hearted and fun. He has a tendency to flirt playfully with anyone he comes into contact with, be it the old auntie down the street, the mailman or his friend’s 4 year old niece, and usually his charms do exactly what he wants them to. When they don’t, however, he can be seen as a bit arrogant. It is rare to see him without a smile on his face. He uses his carefree attitude and good looks to play the part of a brainless beauty, a sort of play on his true name ‘mindless’. If you pay very close attention, though, many of his ‘carefree’ acts are actually calculated. He has actually worked very hard for things that he pretends have just come naturally. Though he is a talented musician he treats music, as most things in his life, as a game. He enjoys ‘playing the part’ of a musician more than actually being one. To him ‘the whole world is a stage’ is a way of life. The only thing he is ever truly serious about is his sacrifice, whom he loves with all his heart, and when topics that relate to Ayane come up there is something else behind Ukon’s smiles.

Boring basics:Ukon was born in Canada to Japanese parents. He lived there until he graduated university, when he moved to Japan in search of his sacrifice. He is an only child.

When he was little:Ukon grew up knowing what true love is. Every day he would see it in his parents. Even after years of being together, they would still look at each other in the way young lovers first do. When Ukon was little, what he didn’t understand was why they weren’t married. He came home from his kindergarten class and asked once. The answer he got was, at the time, confusing “Mommy and daddy have a bond that is deeper than that.”. It wasn’t until he was 11 years old and his name appeared that they explained what their bond really was and he was introduced to the world of fighters and sacrifices.

Introduction to being a fighter:It was both a blessing and a curse when that name appeared, though Ukon wouldn’t learn the full extent of the negatives until later in life. His parents chose not to tell him until he was at an age where they were sure he could deal with it. All he knew was that there was someone destined for him now. When he first saw that name on his arm, he fell in love with his sacrifice before he even knew who that sacrifice was. From that day on he worked hard to be all the things someone could want in him: strong, beautiful, talented, smart, kind so that when the day came to meet his sacrifice he would be ready.

The harsh reality of being a fighter: The year Ukon graduate high school is when the dark side of being a unit was taught to him. He learnt that his parents had fled from Japan to Canada to rid themselves of that world. That most units didn’t make it out. When he asked them what they had to do to leave, Ukon saw a look he had never seen before cross their faces. He never asked again. They told him the sort of training he would have to endure, and that he would probably die in battle. But none of it mattered to him. If he was going to die, he was going to die beside the one he loved. He knew, however, that he wasn’t ready yet. He wasn’t a person worthy of a sacrifice.

University:Ukon entered university with a scholarship and made money playing in local orchestras and bartending, saving so that when they time came he could spend all of his energy finding his sacrifice. He began training his body to withstand physical pain whenever he had a spare moment, going as far as refraining from eating or sleeping for days while trying to maintain all of the qualities he had worked so hard to master. He finished a 4 year degree in 3 years, and finally deemed himself worthy to find his love. He left a few months before his 21st birthday. His parents were sad to see him leave, but knew it was what he needed to do. Their last words to him were “Remember, no matter what happens, we love you.”

Meeting his Sacrifice:When he arrived in Japan, his searching bore fruit and he found the name of his sacrifice. He planned to surprise the boy with his appearance, but was himself surprised when he learnt that his sacrifice had already found someone to love. He has continued to watch his sacrifice from a distance, until he is sure that he can control his feeling when he really meets the sacrifice.
