Hidden Away - Oasis

In the middle of the park, lays a small area, largely ignored but cherished by the few who know of its presence. The entrance is marked by a short hedge, willow trees standing on either side of the pathway marked only by large, smooth stepping stones on the well kept grass stones. Inside the enclosure, one can find benches, a large koi pond and small sitting areas tucked away into the corners of the little garden, providing some small semblance of privacy in the midst of the open area. The place speaks of peace, and one feels almost compelled to a certain level of silence whilst there. The place most refer to as Oasis...

Sticking in her ear piece, Adolpha took a deep breath as she entered the area she'd discovered some time ago, knowing she would need the serenity of this place to center her mind. She wasn't really required to do much talking, thankfully, but she had to listen in on this call so that she would know what Saitou-san was trying to get them both into. The case was a large one, and it would likely require the attention of both of them, particularly if the matter went to trial. They might certainly be ready to take on the case, involving a strict liability claim against a rather unknown manufacturing company. Resources would be tight on both sides, and Adolpha had no idea how Saitou-san had managed to get saddled with it when there were other well known, larger firms that made such cases their bread and butter. Still...

Not prone to greed, she only imagined her cut if all went well and the client decided to let them represent him. Hitting the button reserved on speed-dial for her partner, she sat down on a bench, her eyes drifting towards one koi in particular that she'd taken an interest in...solid white except for a large black spot on its back.

“Adolpha-chan?” the voice came. Peppy as usual, it seemed. “Thank you so much for agreeing to listen in on this interview. I think he's pretty much set on us, so I just wanted you to listen in and make sure that everything seems manageable. Ready?”

“Yep, I'll be here and listening.”

The soft click and ringing began as Saitou-san rang the client to start the conference call. After the preliminary introductions, most her her attention was on the conversation, mentally filing away pertinent issues and facts. What was left, however, find itself deep within the cool waters of the koi pond, drifting along with the soft ripples that covered the surface.

She hit the end key on her phone, feeling a little better about the case. Most of the research and briefing would have to be done by Saitou though. She had always been more of a civil litigation person, and it'd been too many years since the last time she'd had to know a thing about tort law.

Glancing at her watch, she looked at the time. Time for dinner.
